Over 10,000 volunteers who had initially signed up for the Tokyo Olympics have quit barely 2 months before the opening ceremony. According to a report by Japan's national broadcaster NHK, a total of 80,000 volunteers had signed up for various roles during the games but over 10,000 have now withdrawn their names. With rising cases of Covid-19 in Japan, a lot of cities including the capital and host Tokyo are in a state of emergency which will be lifted later this month. The protests in Japan have intensified as a majority of the residents want the games to be either cancelled or postponed.
