An investigation by Centre for Science and Environment has claimed that leading brands of Honey in India sell the product mixed with sugar syrup.

Samples of 13 labs were sent to a German lab for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance testing, where it was found that only three brands, including Saffola, and Markfed Sohna passed the test. Among the 10 that failed the adulteration test were common names like Dabur, Patanjali and Baidyanath.

CSE director general Sunita Narain stated that the overuse of sugar will make Covid-19 worse. The CSE further found that cheaper sugar syrup imported from China was being used and mixed in raw honey. Indian standards of honey purity cannot detect the adulteration, they concluded. Consumers should be careful and aware of the honey they consume.
