Akhila, an 11-year-old lioness passed away at the Delhi zoo on Tuesday.
She was paralysed for the last 9 years and severely ill for the past one month. Akhila was born at the Delhi zoo in 2009 and developed hind quarter paralysis at a very early age.
Zoo director Ramesh Pandey shared that she developed pulmonary-renal complications, loss of appetite and dehydration in the last couple of days. An autopsy and visceral examinations will be done to ascertain the actual cause of death of the lioness.
