2 UAE cricketers banned for accepting bribes from bookies

Two cricketers who represented the United Arab Emirates - Amir Hayat and Ashfaq Ahmed were banned by the International Cricket Council for fixing matches of the World T20 qualifiers. ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security unit charged the Pakistan born cricketers for accepting bribes from bookies in order to fix matches in their county. The pair has been banned from all cricket activities for a period of 8 years. According to the charge sheet, both cricketers accepted around 15,000 dirhams each from the bookie who is reportedly based out of India. The ban is backdated from 2020 when the apparent exchange took place and will last till 2028.
