After facing a heartbreak at the Formula 1 finale race, 7-time champion Lewis Hamilton received the knighthood at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. He will now be called Sir Lewis Hamilton, the highest honour awarded by the UK government.
The 36-year-old Mercedes racer's mother Carmen Lockhart accompanied him where he was knighted by the Prince of Wales, Charles. He is now the fourth racer to receive the honour after Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham.
He was named in the Queen's Honour list last December itself when Hamilton equalled Michael Schumacher's record.
Hamilton was denied the chance to win a record 8th title by Max Verstappen who won his first-ever Formula 1 title earlier this week.
