At least 8 lakh migrant workers left Delhi for their home states in the first four weeks of the current Covid lockdown in the Capital, the Hindustan Times has reported quoting a report by the Delhi government.

The govt has said that buses and other arrangements were made for labourers to avoid a repeat of last year’s crisis.

The governments of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand coordinated and arranged buses specially for migrant workers, the Delhi transport has said.

Nearly half of the total 8 lakh migrants workers left during the first week of the lockdown. In the following weeks, the number of passengers gradually declined to just over 2 lakh in the second week and about a lakh in the third and fourth, the report said.
