The Madras high court on Thursday set aside the takeover of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s residence - Veda Nilayam by the Tamil Nadu government in order to establish a memorial for her.

While hearing the pleas by Jayalalithaa's legal heirs J Deepa and J Deepak, the Madras HC directed the state government to hand over the property in Chennai's Poes Garden to them in three weeks.

The court questioned the necessity for establishing a second memorial when there is already a memorial for the late CM in Marina.

According to Deepa and Deepak, they are emotionally and sentimentally attached to the Poes Garden residence of their aunt.
