Breaking a common societal misconception that it is harder for people over 50 to lose weight, a new study has found that obese patients over the age of 60 can lose an equivalent amount of weight as younger people using only lifestyle changes.
Reported in the journal Clinical Endocrinology, the findings are based on analysis of patient records from a hospital-based obesity service.
'Age per se should not be a barrier in clinical decisions regarding the implementation of lifestyle management of obesity in older people,' lead author of the UK-based study said.
