All India Institute of Medical Sciences Director Dr Randeep Guleria has listed warning signs of Black Fungus in recovering Covid-19 patients.

He said if a Covid-19 patient who is recovering can't get rid of that persistent headache or swelling on one side of the face the patient must immediately speak to a doctor and get tested for Black Fungus.

Listing other symptoms, the top doctor said Covid-19 patients must also consult doctors if they find discolouration in the mouth and decreased sensation in any part of the face.

Listing out more symptoms, Dr Guleria said if the patient’s nose is getting blocked and there is thrusting, or if there is loosening of a tooth those are the warning signs of Black Fungus or myucormycosis.

An X-ray or a CT scan of the sinuses is done to see if there is infection. A second option, he said, was to do a biopsy through a nasal endoscopy.
