Lakhimpur Kheri Violence: Lucknow Police took Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav in custody on Monday morning from outside his residence. The former CM sat on a dharna outside his house after he was stopped from leaving for Lakhimpur Kheri where 8 people, including four farmers, were killed in violence on Sunday.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the UP government was trying to cover-up the Lakhimpur incident and thus was not allowing political leaders to visit the area. "What is govt trying to hide," he asked.

The SP chief has demanded a two crore compensation for the farmers killed in violence and a murder case against the accused.

He lashed out at the BJP government over the incident, saying that even "the British did not commit such atrocities on farmers as the BJP government is doing".

The UP government has blocked everyone from visiting Lakhimpur Kheri after the violent incident.
