Anti-CAA protests: ‘Janatar Ninad’ programme by student bodies

On Monday, thousands of protesters walked down the street at Nahazar Naharani near Moran to stage their protest (Janatar Ninad) against Citizenship Amendment Act 2019. Under the aegis of Khowang AASU Unit and 30 indigenous organizations, the public meeting was attended by AASU vice president Chitranjan Basumatary, All Chutiya Students Union President Khirod Saikia, All Sonowal Kachari Students Union Secretary Budhin Saikia, All Adavasi Students Union Secretary Deben Urang, AJYCP General Secretary Udayan Kumar Gogoi. During the protest, the leaders of the organizations slammed BJP-led Government and their alleged authoritarian regime. It may be mentioned that since the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 was passed by the Parliament of India on 11 December 2019. It amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 by providing a path to Indian citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities that had fled persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before December 2014.
