Apple has announced that certain iPhone 12 series units, which suffer from issues with the speaker, will be eligible for a free repair.
The free repair program applies to iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices, which were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021. The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max are not covered in this repair program.
Some iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro units manufactured during the time period mentioned may suffer from failing components, due to which the ear speaker may not emit any sound during calls. Apple will fix this specific issue for free. If a qualifying iPhone has a broken display, that will have to be fixed first, and will not be covered under the free repair program.

The repair program is eligible to all users worldwide, although Apple has said that it may restrict free repairs to the country of purchase.
Users who wish to get their iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro devices fixed will have one of three options, depending on availability in their region. They can find an Apple Authorized Service Provider, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center.
