Ladakh's famous double-humped camel might soon be inducted into the Indian army to help troops patrol the India-China border. DRDO scientists have been conducting research on the animal's endurance and load-carrying capacity. The research which was conducted in the Eastern Ladakh at 17,000 ft height near the China border revealed that they can patrol for 12 kms with a load of 170 kgs. The camels can also survive food and water scarcity for three days. While these local animals have less population in the area, DRDO scientists said that after attaining numbers through proper breeding, they will be inducted in the army. As of now, the Indian army uses Ponies and Mules that can carry 40 kgs of load.
