India featured among the top 20 most generous countries in the world as per the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) World Giving Index 2021.
As per the released rankings, India leapfrogged to the 14th position from the 10-year global rank of 82. The foundation that conducted the survey called India one of the fastest climbers on the index.
The data from the survey further revealed that at least 61% of Indians helped strangers during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic; 36% donated money and 34% volunteered for working towards the social causes in the nation.
Millions of people stepped up to help strangers during the harrowing time of the pandemic. The data showed that this year's result had the highest 'helped a stranger' figure since 2009.
Over 55% of the world's adults have helped some stranger. While developed countries like the U.S. Canada, UK, which would otherwise make it to the top 10, significantly fell off in the rankings. Interestingly, poor countries like Kenya, Nigeria made their place in the top 10.
Indonesia is the most generous country in the world, followed by Kenya, Nigeria, and Myanmar, as per the survey.
