Ashes Tests & Australian Open could have 100% capacity after Victoria reduces Covid restrictions

Capacity crowds are set to return for the Australian Open and the Ashes cricket Test series this summer as the state of Victoria eased Covid-19 restrictions further Thursday.

The eagerly-awaited Ashes series between Australia and England will go ahead, with the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground permitted to host up to 100,000 fans in the stands. The Rod Laver arena in Melbourne which hosts the Australian Open will also allow 100% occupancy during the tennis tournament. 

Interestingly, Australia's Test against India at the MCG earlier this year was capped at 30,000 fans per day because of the pandemic.
