Assam, Nagaland agree to withdraw states’ forces from border points

The state governments of Assam and Nagaland on Saturday arrived at an understanding to withdraw their forces from the border points back to their respective base camps.

Sharing the information on Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said it is a historic step in the relations between the two states and expressed his gratitude to Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio. 

Assam is committed to ensuring peace along all its borders & strives for social & economic prosperity of Northeast region, Sarma added. 

The announcement comes at a time when Assam is embroiled in a flared up border dispute with the Northeastern state of Mizoram
