A New South Wales resident was taken aback when she accidentally discovered a new spider species, with a blue face and eight eyes.
Amanda De George, a zookeeper and scientist spotted the eight-legged critter at her home backyard in Australia almost 18 months ago but sent it for identification when it re-appeared again this year.
The 4 millimetre long jumping spider was captured along with another one and sent to a spider expert in Melbourne.
Experts later identified it as belonging to a genus group Jotus and will later be given a Latin scientific name. De George described the find as exciting and said it felt nice to contribute to science.
