The Rashtriya Janata Dal has decided to field jailed don Anant Singh from the Mokama seat for the upcoming Bihar elections. The 59-year-old has 25 criminal cases including 8 murder cases against him and is currently jailed under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act after weapons including AK-47 were found from his house in 2019.

The sitting MLA from Mokama was once termed an 'anti-social' element by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and in 2015, former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav even had him arrested in connection with kidnapping and murder case.

Singh, a 3-time MLA from Mokama, was once a member of the JD(U) and was considered close to Nitish Kumar. He however contested 2015 Bihar polls independently after Nitish refused to give him a ticket because of pressure from his then ally Lalu Yadav.
