A controversy has erupted after photographs showed BJP flag placed over the National Flag on BJP's veteran Kalyan Singh's body on Sunday.
A photograph tweeted by the BJP showed Kalyan Singh's body lying in state, draped by the national flag. But half of it was seen to be covered up by the party flag of the BJP.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other top leaders of the BJP had on Sunday paid their last respects to the former UP CM who died in Lucknow in Saturday.
Several Congress leaders, including Shashi Tharoor, raised the issue and questioned the BJP over "this insult to the Tricolour".
Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act says that anyone who burns, defiles, mutilates, tramples upon or shows disrespect to the National Flag shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.
