BJP has registered a thumping victory in the Tripura municipal elections after winning in all 14 urban bodies. It has won 329 seats out of the 334 seats across the 14 urban bodies.

Out of the 334 seats, BJP won 112 uncontested and 222 seats went to polls - the BJP won 217 of those seats.

TMC and CPI(M) won one seat each.

BJP President JP Nadda thanked and congratulated the people of Tripura for the victory, and said it shows people's trust in governance of Prime Minister Modi.

TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee meanwhile tweeted that given TMC started working in Tripura just a few months before the local elections, the results are exceptional.

He wrote that it is exceptional for a party beginning with negligible presence to successfully contest municipal elections and emerge as the principal opposition in the state with more than 20% vote share
