Border dispute thaw? Assam CM directs Police to withdraw FIR against Mizoram MP

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Monday that he has directed the Police to withdraw the FIR against the Rajya Sabha MP from Mizoram, K Vanlalvena, who had allegedly made 'threatening statements' about the border violence issue.

Sarma said his state wants to keep the spirit of north east alive and take forward the "goodwill gesture" by Mizoram.

However, the Assam Chief Minister added that cases against the other police officers will be pursued.

Meanwhile, Mizoram government has also said it would withdraw the FIR filed against Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a telephonic discussion with Sarma and Mizoram CM Zoramthanga towards a peaceful resolution of the border differences. After the call, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga tweeted to inform that the boundary dispute with Assam will be resolved amicably through dialogue
