On a slow and low batting surface of Chennai, Mumbai Indians elected to bat first as the openers gave them just the perfect start. Sunrisers Hyderabad fought back to remove captain Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession. Quinton de Kock scored 40 but the rest of the batsmen failed to adjust to the surface in Chennai. Old warhorse Kieron Pollard then rose to the occasion and smashed an unbeaten 35 off 22 balls to take Mumbai to 150/5. In reply, the Sunrisers looked in a hurry to finish the game as Jonny Bairstow took apart the Mumbai bowlers. He smashed a 22 ball 43 but no one else failed to hit the groove. Captain Warner scored a 34 ball 36 before being run out by Hardik Pandya. Sunrisers imploded once again as they fell short by 13 runs with Rahul Chahar and Trent Boult taking 3 wickets each. 3rd straight loss for Sunrisers this season as they are yet to open their account in 2021 as Mumbai Indians jumped to the top of the points table with their 2nd win.
