In a breakthrough for space research and travel, NASA scientists have confirmed the presence of water on the sunlit surface of the Moon for the first time via its Sofia Telescope.
Noting the findings in two papers published in the journal Nature Astronomy, the agency discovered that there are probably tens of billions of “micro cold traps” on the moon, which could be great news for the future of lunar ice.
Water is a crucial resource for not just continuing research on the Moon but also for building a permanent base on the celestial body, which could later serve as a stop-over on the journey to Mars.
