In a significant milestone, ChatGPT maker OpenAI has surpassed $2 billion in annualised revenue in December 2023, reported Financial Times. This comes amid the widespread acceptance and usage of its flagship product ChatGPT.

OpenAI's revenue growth

The Microsoft backed firm has projections suggesting doubling its revenue figures by 2025 due to the increasing interest from business customers in integrating generative AI tools into their operations.

OpenAI as the fastest growing tech firm resonates with tech giants like Google and Meta which also reached the $1 billion revenue mark within a decade of their founding. OpenAI reported a revenue of $1.3 billion in October 2023.

As per Wall Street Now, despite its revenue success, OpenAI remains unprofitable due to the substantial costs associated with developing and maintaining its AI models. The company anticipates that expenses will continue to outstrip revenue growth as it invests in more advanced models, necessitating significant capital infusion.

OpenAI was founded in 2015 as a not-for-profit AI research lab and transitioned into a commercial entity in 2020.
