OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT has made its first hiring in India as per a report by Bloomberg. The AI firm has appointed Pragya Misra, to lead public policy affairs and partnerships as per sources who spoke to Bloomberg.

Misra has earlier worked with TrueCaller and Meta. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, during his visit to India last year, has said that countries such as India should support AI research in ways that can improve government services like health care.

The hiring underscores OpenAI's push for favorable regulations amid global government deliberations on governing rapidly advancing technology.

With its vast population and rapidly growing economy, India presents significant growth potential for tech companies. However, navigating the regulatory landscape proves challenging due to lawmakers and regulators prioritizing the protection of local firms.
