Cyber attacks in India soar by 18% this year: Check Point

A new Check Point report has claimed that India's average weekly cyber attack increased by 18% to 2,108 in the first quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, organisations across the globe, faced a rise by 7% to 1,248 attacks per week.

The Asia-Pacific region is at the top of the list with over 16% increase in average attacks per organization. This was followed by North America that saw a 9% increase reaching an average of 950 average weekly attacks per organisation.

As per the Check Point report, cyber criminals are using new AI technologies like ChatGPT to launch attacks. Globally, Education and research sectors are the hardest hit with an average 2,507 attacks per week in the first quarter of 2023. This is a 15% rise in comparison to the same period last year. This was followed by government and military sector that witnessed almost 1,725 attacks per week.

However, retail and healthcare sectors have seen the largest rise in attacks per week. While the attacks on healthcare sector rose 22%, retail sector saw a 49% rise.
