Delhi Air Pollution: Delhi, faced with a severe pollution crisis, has seen a sharp rise in the sales of air purifiers as residents scramble to protect their health. Over the past three days, the city has experienced alarming levels of air pollution, prompting experts to label the situation as 'severe'. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in various parts of the city has surpassed 400, triggering the implementation of the final stage of the Centre's anti-pollution plan in Delhi and the National Capital Region.
In response to the worsening air quality, doctors have advised residents to wear masks and invest in air purifiers for their homes. This recommendation has led to a significant surge in air purifier sales across the city. India Today TV reporters visited an electronics market in Laxmi Nagar and discovered a notable increase in the purchase of air purifiers.
Concerned citizens are flocking to stores to buy these devices, with one resident stating, "I have two kids and elders at my home. Due to pollution, their eyes are itching, and they are coughing. Keeping their condition in mind, I have come here to buy an air purifier for my home."
Salesperson Nishant Gupta reported a 70% increase in sales, primarily in the price range of ₹20,000-25,000. Air purifiers, available in various shapes and sizes, range from ₹8,000 to ₹80,000. These devices employ high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and activated carbon to eliminate fine particles, allergens, odours, and harmful gases from indoor air. High-quality air purifiers have proven effective in reducing particulate matter and other pollutants, offering residents a safer breathing environment amidst the ongoing pollution crisis.
