Indian equities surged for the second straight session as investors watch the latest elections results even as the global markets remained buoyant. Here are the top market highlights for Thursday:
- Nifty moved 1.53% higher to close near 16,600, while Sensex climbed more than 800 points to end at 55,464
- In the election update, BJP is leading in four out of the five states with majority seats and AAP seems to be making government in Punjab
- Stocks surged across sectors although the Nifty IT index closed a little lower
- Hindustan Unilever, Tata Steel, Grasim, SBI and JSW Steel were the top gainers
- Brent crude futures cooled off from the highs even as it was trading 5% in the green at $116/bbl
