Bank Holidays in October 2023 in India: As the festive season unfolds in October, various public holidays will affect banking operations, including the celebrated festivals such as Dussehra. The Reserve Bank of India has released a comprehensive list of bank holidays for the month, which comprises 18 holidays, including both second and fourth Saturdays, as well as Sundays.

Per RBI guidelines, all banks, including public sector, private sector, foreign, and cooperative banks, observe national and regional holidays, particularly those linked to local festivals. Regional holidays are determined by respective state governments. Notable national holidays in October include Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and Dussehra or Durga Puja on October 24.

To avoid any inconvenience and last-minute issues, customers are advised to plan their banking transactions accordingly. However, it's worth noting that internet banking services and ATMs will remain operational nationwide throughout the month.

October 2023 bank holidays in India: Lists of festival leaves state-wise

- 2nd October: Gandhi Jayanti (National Holiday, all banks will be shut)

- 14th October: Mahalaya (West Bengal) and Second Saturday

- October 18: Kati Bihu (Assam)

- October 21: Durga Puja- Maha Saptami (Assam, Manipur, Tripura, and West Bengal)

- October 23: Dussehra- Maha Navami or Ayudha Pooja (Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Kerala, Nagaland, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal)

- October 24: Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami or Durga Puja (except in Andhra Pradesh and Manipur)

- October 25: Durga Puja or Dashain (Sikkim)

- October 26: Durga Puja or Dashain or Accession Day (Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir)

- October 27: Durga Puja or Dashain (Sikkim)

- October 28: Lakshmi Puja (West Bengal)

- October 31: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's   birth anniversary (Gujarat)

These bank holidays are categorized into three sections: Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks' Closing of Accounts.
