RBI launches UPI123Pay, a digital payment method without internet

UPI123Pay: A step that would help some 40 crore Indians, the Reserve Bank of India has made UPI accessible for feature phones as well. The central bank and National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) launched UPI123Pay, which allows one to make payments without the internet.

How to use UPI123Pay?

UPI123Pay is a three-step process - call, choose and pay.

1. User has to link his/her bank account with the feature phone and set a UPI PIN.

2. To make a payment, call on the IVR number and select the phone depending on the service required such as money transfer, LPG gas refill, FasTag recharge, mobile recharge, balance check etc.

3. One will have to select the phone number of the person to whom money is to be transferred, enter the amount and UPI PIN. To pay to a merchant, he can use the app-based payment method or missed call payment method.
