Food delivery platform Zomato on Tuesday launched a large order fleet with an aim to deliver orders for gatherings of upto 50 people. Zomato's Chief Executive Deepinder Goyal posted in X that the fleet will be all-electric. However, he did not specify the number of vehicles in the fleet.
Zomato had been planning to enter the catering business by leveraging its network of restaurant partners as part of a broader strategy to service large orders. This also comes at a time when the company is looking to expand its business in various use cases of food delivery. In the X post, Goyal mentioned that work in the vehicles is still in process and Zomato is adding important enhancements to them – like cooling compartments, and hot boxes with temperature control.
In June 2023, the food delivery platform had introduced the multi-cart feature, allowing users to order from multiple restaurants at the same time. In its December 2023 quarterly earnings call, the firm said that it expected monthly transacting customers to play a key role in driving growth, along with new customers.
