The 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival rolled out the red carpet for the first time in more than two years on Tuesday, with health and safety protocols in place due to the pandemic.

Launching the spectacular French Riviera event, was the premiere of Leos Carax’s 'Annette', a musical starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.

At the opening ceremony was also last year’s Palme d’Or winner, South Korean director Bong Joon Ho. There was also an honorary Palme for actor Jodie Foster, who first came to Cannes as a 13-year-old with Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver." Pedro Almodovar, Jessica Chastain, Helen Mirren and Bella Hadid were seen on the iconic red carpet.

The Cannes Film Festival this year will have socially distanced screenings with hygiene measures in place, which means no hugging and cheek kissing on the red carpet. A Covid rapid testing site will be operational at the event, where festival goers can taking non-invasive tests every 48 hours.
