If you face the trouble of falling asleep at night, you are not alone. But did you know that there are some types of teas available that help induce a better sleep quality? Yeah, you heard that right! No pills or added chemicals, just a simple cup of warm tea.

Hibiscus tea

As the name suggests, hibiscus tea is derived from the leaves of dried hibiscus flowers. The bright red coloured potion has many healthy components, one of which is methanol. According to National Center for Biotechnology Information in the United States, methanol exhibits both sedative and anxiolytic effects in animal studies. Additionally, hibiscus tea has been shown to have mild CNS-depressant activity and muscle relaxation properties, all of which promote better sleep quality.

Chamomile tea

A herb derived from the Asteraceae plant family, chamomile tea is another beverage that acts as a sleep inducer. According to a study published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing, chamomile contains apigenin, an antioxidant that binds to certain receptors in the brain that promote sleepiness. The study also adds that having a cup of chamomile tea just 45 minutes before bed has the best effect on sleep.

Lavender tea

Lavender is best known for its relaxing aroma. But this beautiful herbal tea, made from the small purple buds of the flowering plant has many more beneficial effects. A study published in the National Library of Medicine in the United States revealed that consuming lavender tea reduced heart rate, anxiety and improves sleep quality.
