Beijing-born Chloé Zhao was scrubbed from Chinese social media on Monday after her historic win at the Oscars 2021.

Zhao made history, winning best director and best picture for her film 'Nomadland' becoming the first Asian woman and only the second woman to ever win the award.

However, China is not celebrating her victory as all recent posts containing her name and 'Nomadland' were mysteriously wiped from the Twitter-like site Weibo. Her win was also met with silence by Chinese media.

According to reports, the official silence comes after Chinese Internet users dug up her 2013 interview in which she appeared to criticize her country of birth-China as a place 'where there are lies everywhere'.
