Indian Air Force Group Captain Varun Singh, who was injured in the chopper crash that killed CDS Bipin Rawat last week, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
IAF chopper with CDS Bipin Rawat and 13 others had crashed last Wednesday in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor. While 13, including General Rawat and his wife, were killed in the crash, Group Captain Varun Singh was battling for his life in the military hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the demise of Group Captain Varun Singh.
"Group Captain Varun Singh served the nation with pride, valour and utmost professionalism. I am extremely anguished by his passing away. His rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti," the PM tweeted.
A tri-services enquiry has been instituted to probe the chopper crash.
The black box, comprising the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder, of the ill-fated Mi-17V5 helicopter of the Indian Air Force was recovered from the crash site on Thursday.
