Severe coal shortage at thermal power plants in Punjab has forced power utility PSPCL to cut down power generation and impose rotational load shedding at several places in the state.

Coal-fired power plants are running at a reduced capacity because of the shortage of coal, Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd said on Saturday.

The state power corporation said that power plants in Punjab are left with coal stock of up to five days.

Earlier on Saturday, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Prime Minister Modi seeking his personal intervention into the coal shortage being faced by the national capital.

On Friday, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had also written to the Prime Minister about the power crisis
