TMC MP and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to join the investigation in connection with a coal smuggling case on September 21 in Delhi.

This is the third summon issued to Abhishek Banerjee.

Earlier, on September 6 he was questioned for over eight hours in Delhi's Jam Nagar House.

He was next summoned to appear in Delhi on September 10 but he said he couldn’t travel at such short notice.

Ahead of his questioning on Monday Banerjee told reporters that he was ready to face the investigation but pointed out that ‘for a Kolkata-based case he was summoned to Delhi’. In a very dramatic manner the TMC MP had claimed that if any central agency could prove his involvement in any illegal he would walk up the podium and get himself hanged publicly.

His wife, Rujira Banerjee, has also been summoned. Rijura was asked to appear on September 1 but she refused citing the Covid situation and said she could not travel because she had young children at home. Rijura asked the agency to question her at her Kolkata home instead
