India’s top committee for post-vaccination adverse reactions is expected to review data related to side effects of the Covishield and Covaxin Covid-19 vaccines this week, to ensure they are not linked to blood clots as reported in some nations.

The National Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI) committee, the body in charge of investigating such events, will look at both Covishield and Covaxin, the two vaccines in use in the ongoing immunisation programme.

A preliminary review conducted towards the end of last week reflected no cause for concern, according to the Covid-19 task force members of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The decision to review the vaccine reactions comes after concerns raised over the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, with several European and some Asian countries suspending the use of the shot.
