Covid-19: 47,262 fresh cases in 24 hours, highest daily surge of 2021

With 47,262 fresh Covid-19 infections, India recorded the highest single-day spike of 2021 on Wednesday, pushing the total tally to 1,17,34,058. 

The daily rise in infections is the highest in 132 days. 47,905 new infections were reported in a span of 24 hours on November 12 last year. The active caseload increased for the 14th consecutive day and the recovery rate further dropped to 95.49%.

275 new fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours, the highest in around 83 days. India has recorded 1,60,441 deaths and the Covid fatality rate is at 1.37%.

Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu - which have reported a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases - are major contributors in the nationwide tally, the govt said. These states together account for 80.9% of the new cases.
