Covid-19: China to test all Wuhan residents as cases emerge after a year

The highly contagious Delta variant of the Covid-19 has raised major concerns in China over the last few days. The virus has been spreading to places that had been virus-free for months, including the original epicentre of Wuhan.

The authorities in Wuhan said they would test its entire population for the virus after the city reported 7 local cases on Monday.

The city of 11 million is "swiftly launching comprehensive  testing of all residents", a senior Wuhan official said.

New cases have been reported in Wuhan for the first time since China brought its original wave under control by locking down the city in 2020.
