With more than 300 daily Covid deaths on an average in the last week, Delhi is running out of space for cremations. New temporary facilities are being developed to accommodate the rising number of pandemic victims. At the Sarai Kale Khan cremation site, around 60-70 bodies are being handled every day because of the deadly second wave. The facility, however, has capacity for only 22. Now, at least 100 new platforms are being raised in the green space near it in anticipation of an even higher caseload, NDTV has reported. The situation is as serious in Delhi's other 25 crematoriums and burial grounds run by three of its municipal corporations. Delhi recorded 380 deaths on Monday, 350 on Sunday, and 357 the day before. The average number of Covid-19-related deaths in the past week was 304.
