Covid in India: 18,599 new infections push country's tally to 1.12 crore

Six states across the country continued to report a surge in daily Covid-19 cases, pushing the country’s overall tally to 1.12 crore, according to the Union health ministry update on Monday morning.

India on Monday recorded 18,599 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease and the total active caseload stood at 1.88 lakh after. The daily rise in new infections were recorded above 18,000 for the third consecutive day. Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are driving the daily surge in caseload.

The recovery rate has dropped further to 96.95 per cent, the ministry data stated.

Meanwhile, the vaccination drive is being conducted in full swing. 2,09,89,010 people have been inoculated so far.
