After a raft of bank fraud cases, a murder case has been filed against Anil Sharma, the former chairman and managing director of Amrapali Group.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 11 January 2023 named Sharma as an accused in the murder of Sharad Chand, a former secretary of Bihar-based educational institution Balika Vidyapeeth.

Chand was murdered in August 2014 to gain control of land and assets of the institution, according to investigators. He was allegedly shot dead while he was reading a newspaper sitting in the verandah of his residence at about 6:30 am on August 2, 2014.
