In an unusual case, a woman has been arrested by Delhi police for allegedly stealing money from her own father. The 34-year-old woman allegedly siphoned off over ₹2 lakhs from her retired father's pension account.
She stole to money to get back her gold jewellery mortgaged with a finance company for a loan, as per police. The money was stolen between November 2021 and March 2022, and the accused used to delete OTP (one time password) and account debit messages from her father's phone so he wouldn't find out.
The investigation began after the father, a 69-year-old retired employee of an electricity company, claimed that ₹2.03 lakh was taken out from his account without his knowledge. The victim claimed he had not received any OTP or debit messages.
During the probe, it was found that the money had been sent to e-wallets and then to bank accounts registered in the victim's daughter and son-in-law's names. The daughter admitted to the crime, as per police.
