Alleged conman Sanjay Prakash Rai alias Sanjay Sherpuria who was arrested in April 2023 for allegedly faking access to the PMO and Cabinet Ministers to dupe businessmen, also duped an elderly woman to acquire her prime property near the Race Course road for just Rs 40 lakh.

According to an Indian Express report on 27 August 2023, Sherpuria had allegedly taken control of the Delhi Riding Club near the PM's residence after paying its owner Rs 40 lakh on the pretext of taking care of her in old age.

As per the ED chargesheet, Sherpuria relocated the elderly woman to a rented place in Gurgaon and moved his family into her property in 2017 from where he ran his operations.

Sherpuria was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force in April for fraudulently 'misusing' the PM’s name for personal gain and allegedly faking access to the PMO and Cabinet Ministers to allegedly dupe businessmen. The UP STF action had been taken on a reference from ED which first began probing him.
