A dreadful incident has been captured on camera at the Vasai road railway station in Mumbai.

The CCTV footage from early Monday morning purpotedly shows the man waking his wife up and then dragging her to the platform edge only to push her in front of a moving train.

The man is then seen fleeing in hurry with his two kids while his wife's body, a few steps away, lay stranded on the platform.

The woman died on the spot and her mutilated body was later sent for postmortem, police said.

The man was later nabbed by Thane police who prevented him boarding a train to Dadar in Mumbai.

A case was registered against the man under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, the official said.

A senior police official revealed the woman had gone out for two days with a friend of her husband which annoyed him and both had a quarrel over it, prior to the incident.
