Amid revelations that Shraddha Walkar had feared for her life and complained to police 2 years before her murder, Maharashtra's deputy Chief Minister has promised a probe.

Devendra Fadnavis on 23 November 2022 said that an inquiry will be initiated into why "no action" was taken by the police on the complaint.

27-year-old Shraddha Walkar was murdered allegedly by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala in Delhi in May 2022. Aaftab has been accused of strangling her to death, and then chopping her body into 35 pieces and keeping them in a refrigerator for many weeks while he slowly disposed of them.

In November 2020, Shraddha had written to Palghar police, claiming that Aaftab had tried to kill her, and she also feared that he would cut her into pieces. She also wrote that he used to beat her up, and his parents knew about this.

Devendra Fadnavis said that the letter is "very serious", and "such incidents happen when action is not taken on complaints".
