Deltacron: Even as Omicron variant of coronavirus continues to wreak havoc around the world, scientists in Cyprus have claimed to found a new variant of Covid-19.
The new variant, according to a Univeristy of Cyprus professor, combines features of Delta and Omicron. It has been named Deltacron due to the identification of Omicron-like genetic signatures within the Delta genome.
A team led by Professor Leondios Kostrikis of the University of Cyprus has claimed to have identified 25 cases of Deltacron in Cyprus so far, reports said.

It is important to note that ‘Deltacron’ has not been recognised or designated by any international health authority as of now.
The sequences of the 25 Deltacron cases were sent to the international database that tracks changes in the virus, on Jan. 7.
It is still a matter of research if this strain is more pathological or more contagious or if it will prevail over delta and omicron?
