Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday praised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her government’s handling and management of Cyclone Yaas. A Bengali daily quoted Ghosh saying that the state government had done a good job this time.
Though the cyclone wreaked havoc in West Bengal causing large scale flooding, only one death was reported from the state. The state government had managed to evacuate 11 lakh people from vulnerable locations to the cyclone shelters, saving several lives.
Ghosh’s praise was however short-lived. He found flaws in Mamata’s claims that one crore people have been affected, while three lakh houses and 134 river embankments were damaged. Ghosh said, from these figures, it seems that the govt had already decided on the numbers even before the cyclone came.
