Antigua has told Dominca to send fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, who was nabbed in the Caribbean island after fleeing Antigua directly to India. In an interview to ANI, Antigua PM Gaston Browne said that he has told the Dominica authorities that he doens't want Choksi back in his country and that he should be extradited directly to India. The Pm further said that Dominica has agreed to repatriate Choksi, who entered its territory illegally by a boat.
"Requested PM Skerrit & law enforcement in Dominica to not return him (Mehul Choksi) to Antigua where he has legal & constitutional protection as citizen. We've requested that he be detained & to make arrangements with Dominican govt to have him return to India," Browne told ANI.
Choksi had fled India in 2017 and had taken citizenship of Antigua. He, alongwith his nephew Nirav Modi, is wanted in the ₹14,000 crore Punjab National Bank scam.
